Brent Wise
Brent Wise is currently the Principal at Weaverville Elementary School. He has worked in public education for more than 16 years, at the Elementary, Middle and High School levels. He additionally serves the community through volunteering as Pack 15’s Assistant Cub Master in Weaverville. He is an active, long term member at Weaverville United Methodist Church. His education includes a B.S. from NC State University, a Masters in Education from Alabama A&M, and a Masters in Administration from Western Carolina University. He is the father of three sons who are all actively involved in soccer. He has coached soccer for five years.
Laurel & Rick Broadhurst
Rick Broadhurst is a resident of Weaverville, NC, proud father of three soccer-playing sons, and active in a variety of community activities. He is the Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 15, Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Weaverville United Methodist Church, a coach for the Upward Basketball program, a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 15, a retired Colonel from the North Carolina Army National Guard, and former Commander of company C, 161st Area Support Medical Battalion, Asheville, NC. Rick also maintains a private medical practice in Asheville as a physician specializing in occupational and rehabilitation medicine. He stays active in outdoor activities and sports, including skiing, running and canoeing.
Laurel Broadhurst is a long term Asheville physician with a wide base of expertise in preventive medicine, family practice and addiction disorders. She is actively involved in the United Methodist Church, sponsor of the ‘Room at the Inn’ support program for homeless women, and an active volunteer coordinator in the local Weaverville public school system. She is an outdoor enthusiast, camper and hiker.
Randy Bassham, Founder, President & Executive Director
Randy Bassham has a B.S. in Psychology from East Tennessee State University and an MBA from Southern Wesleyan University where he graduated 1st out of a class of 312. He has held many senior level management positions with Fortune 500 companies and private businesses.
Currently, Randy is President and Maging Director of Mi Vida Costa Rica (MiVidaCR.com) an international real estate marketing company. Most recently he has served as President of Imagination Works, Inc. and President of Creative Idea Management and Solutions, Inc. d.b.a. The Higher Quest Computer Services. Randy also owns and operates Skills First, Inc. which among others maintains the d.b.a. Weaverville Futbol Club (WFC).
Randy played Soccer at the collegiate level for James Madison University and in Germany. He is Head Coach of the boys Soccer team at North Buncombe Middle School. Randy has coached with Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) recreation league and Smokey Mountain Soccer Club Challenge League for 12 seasons. He is a long standing, active member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He also coaches basketball in the Upward league.
Randy holds a N.C. State High School Soccer Coach License through the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is actively pursing a National High School Coach License and a National Youth License.
Randy is also deeply rooted further in the community as he is active as a leader with Cub Scout Pack 15. He has been involved with Scouting for over 30 years. He is an Eagle Scout with silver and gold palms.
Randy is also well involved at the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Mars Hill, NC. He helps clean the church and mows the lawn among many other things.
Randy has served also as Vice-Chairman of North Buncombe Latino Outreach (NBLO) for 3 years. He also teaches Spanish through NBLO. He has extensive contacts in the Latino Community.
Randy is fluent in German, Ober-Felstarisch, Spanish, and of course English. He has traveled extensively throughout the world and is familiar with many different cultures.
Randy has two children, Cody 11 and Cheyana 8. Both are very active in soccer.
Alberto Padilla, Vice President
Alberto was born in Mexico, where he began playing Soccer at a very early age. He played for many years on many different teams and in many leagues eventually playing for one of the feeder teams to the Mexican National Team. Alberto has coached youth Soccer with ABYSA
Alberto is involved and connected extensively within the Latino community of Western North Carolina. He and his wife have two small children.
Rich Maita
Rich Maita studied at the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a major in legal studies. He then opened a paralegal business and ran it while attending law school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He graduated in May of 1996.
He practiced law in Boca Raton, Fl for 2 years. He then moved with his wife and two young children to Western NC and passed the North Carolina Bar Exam. The Maitas now live outside Weaverville.
Rich now has two Law offices, one in Asheville and the other in Hendersonville. He current staff includes one other attorney and 8 paralegals. They specialize in residential real estate, wills and corporations.
Rich and his wife Laura now have four children the oldest of whom is very active in Challenge League Soccer.
Tom Destino
Tom Destino has a PhD. in Education and currently serves as Chairman of the Education Department at Mars Hill College. He teaches English as a Second Language Education courses at the College. This is a new area of study at Mars Hill College which Tom established himself. Tom is fluent in Spanish having studied at the University in Barcelona, Spain. He is extensively involved in Latino affairs throughout Buncombe, Yancey and Madison counties.
Robin Myer
Robin is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of Wright State University. After working for the District Attorney’s Office as an investigator for 8 years, he relocated to North Carolina in 1982. For the past 22 years, he has been associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters. In 1992, he became the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina. This position has allowed him to fully express his lifelong belief in the importance of positive youth development.
Robin is married and has 2 children attending north Buncombe Elementary school. He volunteers at the school and is on the Board of the Asheville-Buncombe Education Coalition.
Randy Cable
Randy has an extendive carreer in media behind him. He is currently Vice president and General Manager Of Asheville Radio Group which owns 96.5 WOXL, Big WISE Sports Radio , 104.9 The Mountain and others.
Randy is also Comissioner of Football with North Buncombe Youth League. he has coached youth football for many years.
Randy and his wife Jen have four boys all of whom are active in sports.
